Start your review of Written in the Stars Circle of Three, In this installment of Circle of Three , the class is learning about astrology, and Annie especially is perturbed by the implication that her personality and life are influenced by the cosmos.
Cooper, meanwhile, is worried about her mother's reaction to the divorce, and her new friend Jane seems to be having some family and relationship problems of her own. Finally, Kate turns sixteen, and struggles with her residual anger at Tyler and Annie for their indiscretions. This one was one of the weakest In this installment of Circle of Three , the class is learning about astrology, and Annie especially is perturbed by the implication that her personality and life are influenced by the cosmos.
This one was one of the weakest of the series so far. Annie performed two rituals that felt random; it became clear by the end of the novel why they felt so out of place. This one felt almost overwhelmingly like a typical YA book: the obligatory teen coming out of the closet, struggling with parents' divorce, boyfriend drama I realized that this installment didn't really have a whole lot of Wicca. Even the astrology theme seemed pretty weaksauce. I like the girls, but let's be honest, if I wanted to read about teen relationship drama alone, I would I came for the Wiccca.
There was some good character development here, but the series seems to be drifting from its roots; the girls get together occasionally, and while I like the idea of them walking their own paths, they barely feel like friends sometimes. I just don't get the sense that they're any closer to each other than to the random strays they pick up Sascha, Jane. This one was definitely a far cry from the ritual on the beach performed in the first one.
I liked the story overall but there wasn't really an ark, especially none that lived up to the grand title of "written in the stars". However, I loved seeing Kate finally explore her anger, Cooper taking active steps in her difficult relationship with her mother, and Annie taking heart as well. Sep 15, Jen added it. The growth in the characters is really starting to show. Jan 15, Sarah Crawford rated it really liked it.
There's quite a bit that happens in this book. It opens with the girls making New Year's resolutions.
A girl named Jane reveals to Cooper that she is a lesbian. Cooper tells the other girls, and that causes problems. Jane later tries suicide, and tells Cooper that her father hates gays. They also talk about how Hitler had gays killed along with the Jews. Cooper has to talk to her father about her mother's drinking since the divorce.
Her drinking seems to be getting a lot worse.
